The Obra Social “la Caixa” presents a tribute to who has been called the first wizard of cinema, Georges Méliès. The exhibition traces the diversity of his work and the value it has had on the evolution of film history, a value that has recently again come to light thanks to the 3D film Hugo Martin Scorsese (2011). Where does Méliès? What made his extraordinary universe? What were your sources of inspiration?
The exhibition explains the roots first cultural, aesthetic and Méliès techniques and shows us that the origins of his world are at the origins of cinema: animated shadows, magic lantern, phantasmagoria, chronophotography, illusion, magic and fantasy.
Visitors travel to strange, agitated and animated one of the most important artists in the history of cinema, attending his birth. Will punctuate the shows projected operating cinematographic and unique items such as Méliès first chamber or original costumes Trip to the Moon. The objects in the exhibition belong to the Cinémathèque Française. Founded in 1936, has the largest collection globally of drawings, movies, gadgets, clothes and objects of Georges Méliès, and an extensive and valuable collection of objects and images relating to the beginnings of cinema.
